Christ called us to be united not divided (part 2)

Therefore, when believers come together in one mind, heart, desire, goal and will, a revival, an outpouring of Gods powers is evident. E.g. the day of Pentecost, Azusa street revival is just a very modern example of a revival that transformed the world as we see it today (or is that an exaggeration-I think not). Where people who loved God gathered in one place in one accord to worship the living God, and where God’s glory was manifested in signs and miracles, speaking in tongues and so forth.

But why are we not seeing this in regular occurrences?

Because there is so much division between believers, believers no more want to associate with each other. I am not going in there, there are Baptist people in there, oh no let us stay over here there are Methodists here. Oh come on now! Is it not just as bad as saying, I am not going over there, there are black people there, or I am staying over here because everybody is white. It is very silly indeed.

This is just a blatant example of disunity in the body of Christ.

When I am witnessing, and I ask people often, “if they are Christian”, they often respond with, “no I am not, I am a Catholic”. Huh? What? Did they just say they are Catholic (this goes for other denominations also, Pentecostal, Methodists, Baptist and so forth). When did being a Christian become based on the denomination you affiliate with?

Matthew 16:16 “And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Matthew 16:18 “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

(1 Corinthians 1:2)  “Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:”

Rom 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

These verses states that our Christianity is based on the finished work of Christ on the Cross. Therefore, our church is not what saves us; it is Christ, being sanctified in the truth of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, when  someone asks  are you a Christian our answer should be yes. Moreover, when they ask you why, we say because Christ died for our sins, and all those who believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and came to die for our sins are saved, and we are born-again, filled with the Holy Spirit. Period!!! Not oh I am a “Catholic, Methodist or Pentecostal”. That is just our affiliation.

(Philippians 2:11) “And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

I do understand that when someone mentions a denomination that they are affiliated with it gives someone an idea of their doctrine, form of worship and so forth. However, I think it is more important to pin point where a person is in Christ, than what denomination they are from, so that we can encourage and comfort one another to grow in full maturity in Christ.

1Corinthians 3:4 “For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?”

‘As long as people promote one denominational persuasion over another, the body of Christ as a whole is still carnal.’—Andrew Wommack’s Living Commentary.

Proverbs 13:10 “Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.”

Pride is the reason for all the division in the Church where there is no division, there is no pride. It is that simple. The love of Jesus is bond that unites all believers under one banner: ‘Jesus Christ is Lord’.

There was hullabaloo on facebook, over the issue of unity. Many people kept repeating that until we come together in doctrine, that we should not compromise on our beliefs and that we should put out all those that speak anything contrary to what the Word of God says. What was funny is that I never disagreed with that, but the harshity (if that is even a word), of the way some people spoke, just showed me, even though they may have been correct but it was not spoken in a loving manner. Let us seek to win others by the gentleness of our words and acts.   Many times, I have seen people having correct knowledge but not applying it in love and not using it to edify, correct in love, exhort and comfort other believers. The lack of love would just make it wrong. I already spoke about knowledge is vain without love here  https://truspire.wordpress.com/2010/04/26/knowledge-is-vain-without-love/ But to emphasise just a few points, Love is what remains, because God is love (1 John 4:8), so our main motivation for displaying our knowledge wherever it may be should be love (1 Corinthians 16:14). So that we may encourage, strengthen, correct brethren in the faith, and to rebuke unbelievers also in love, so that they may be convicted of their sins and repent. If a brother or Christ is in error we do not just tear them down, but build them up in love, of course if they are unwilling to listen and are creating division, then separate yourself from them, the apostle Paul, gave a precedent for that (Acts 19:9).

However, Paul did not say avoid contact with those that have differing doctrine, he said to avoid those that cause division and offenses over doctrine a VERY BIG DIFFERENCE.

Proverbs 14:1 “The wisest of women builds her house, but folly with her own hands tears it down.” (ESV translation)

Nevertheless, we should still show kindness to them. Proverbs 19:22 “The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.”

You can love with out, compromise, you can unite without compromise. People that assume unity is Compromise are still carnal because unity should be what all Christians want. Many Christians pray for revival, but what is a revival, is it not when Christians from all walks of life, come together in one accord, to worship the one true God. So then, what is all the fuss about, when some of us mention unity? In my opinion, I thinks it is that people want to stay in their beliefs, they have gotten so prideful, that they believe that they are right, that anyone that differs is not worthy of associating with them. But have we not all been wrong, and was it not by God’s grace that brought us back into alignment with the truth. 2Peter 3:18 “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.”

There is an explicit example of carnality in the body of Christ, caused by divisions in the bible; Paul was talking to the Corinthians, when he spoke of their carnality.

1Corinthians 3:3 “For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?”

1Corinthians 3:4 “For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?”

Does that not sound familiar, if transferred in modern terms it would look something like this: “for while one saith, I am of the Pentecostal denomination; and another, I am of the Catholic branch: is that not carnal? Sorry people for the tongue and cheek but I wanted all of you to understand my point. Denominations in itself are not really bad, but when we use them to cause division and disunity in the body, then it becomes bad.

I know in America especially there is a big divide between evangelicals and contemporary Christians, and really, it is just silly. If we put on our God-goggles, we will realise that this is not God’s doing but ours. In addition, if we would come to God, to receive the grace to help sort out the mess that we have created.

John 13:34 “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.”

John 13:35 “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”

If as believers we truly loved each other and put pride in its rightful place, would there be so much division? No there would not be, but because of (“I”), instead of Christ, division has become commonplace within Christianity. Making many believers think that unity in doctrine can never happen.

‘Doctrinal differences were meant to be resolved (1Corinthians 1:10) and are not a justification for division in the universal church’.—Andrew Wommack’s Living Commentary.

Man not God makes all division amongst Christians; all true believers have already been joined to each other through the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:3, Romans 12:4). Love should motivate us to serve one another, and put each other’s interest above our own (Philippians 2:3-4).

When you read the book of Acts, you see the love that Jesus spoke about in John amongst the brethren all over the New Testament World at the time. However, when you look at the modern Church today where is that love? That love had been lost in the mist of all dissension, but it need to be found again, found again in Christ. When we look at the Cross-, we see the greatest act of love ever. Moreover, we need to replicate that with our brothers and sisters in Christ (1 John 2:9-10).

Nevertheless, before I go, I want people to realise that Christ is not limited to numbers. Christ said that where two or three are gathered in His Name, he is there with them. (Matthew 18:20). People can be unified where there is two, three or 100 people. It does not matter if there is small number of you or a large number of you, unity is not confined to amount, it is confined in love of one person. That person is our Lord Jesus Christ.

Stay blessed.

Stay tuned for the last in this instalment, thank you for you patience, hope you lot are not bored.

I think that he called us all to be united, but we have “cliques” and different personalities. And we see things in diffrent prespectives!!! So, in saying that, people are dividing themselves… Have you realized, most people go to Church ONLY if atleast some of they’re friends are there.. We are spliting ourselves up.. But in truce, we should be coming, and spreading the word to all we can.. As brother and sister.. We are our God’s son.. And he sent HIS TRUE son to die for us!!! SO we need to rise above and come to eachother, and join and rejoice in the Spirit, TOGETHER!!! And spread the word, TOGETHER… He loves us ALL equaly, so he has no favorites, so we can all have the same amount of love.. All we have to do… Is believe and love backk!! Sorry if this doesn’t go exactly along with the postt.. But, I felt I had to say whyyy we seperate in Spirit, we should ALLL, worship in the house of God TOGETHER, because we’re not friends… We’re brothers and sisters!! It says in the Bible, I think in Ezekial, that God so loved the world he gave his ONLY BEGOTTON SON, and whom so ever believed in him… Sha’ll have ever lasting life!!! Sorry if it isn’t quoted right.. It was a mind thing(: But… God loves us all.. So all we have to do, is come together and give him the love he needs… But we will NEVER love him, as much as he loves EVERY SINGLE one of US!! Everyonee(: Okay, I’m done.. Hope it wasn’t too much off subject d:

Hello Truspire. I will start by saying that I totally understand and appreciate your concerns. Dis-unity amongst the saints, is contrary to the will of God and is also a trampling of the precious blood of Christ that was shed on our behalf; and I can see why this can be disheartening for a Christian. However you cannot find one Scripture that teaches us to seek unity at the expense of truth. Actually to the contrary, we find Paul in Romans 16:17-18 explaining that it is those who bring false doctrine that cause division. The Bible also commands us to “prove all things” (1 Thess 5:21) and Paul vehemently denounces all those who teach heresies, (Gal 1:9) and we have many other examples of the Apostles doing the same (3 John 9-10, Titus 1:9-11, 2 Peter 2)

I make these points for two reasons. Firstly, it appears to me that you are suggesting that all division amongst those who claim to be Christians regardless of their doctrinal differences is not God’s will. As I have shown from the previous passages that is untrue. God expects us to depart from those professing Christianity but whose doctrines are heretical. (1 John 2:10)

Secondly there are many parts of your blog where you have suggested that you are even willing to defend the authenticity of the Roman Catholic Church and unite with them as fellow saints. Do you assert this realising the doctrines of their church? Should we unite with a Church that denies the sufficiency of Scripture and justification by faith alone?

    Hi There,

This is great, more people need to read this…

i find it so sad when people decide to follow a doctrine or a denomination rather than just following Jesus…

all this division is doing nothing but shifting the focus from God’s desire to bring people into the Kingdom and placing it on other less important things!!

the story of Mary and Martha comes to mind….

Martha was distracted doing everything that “HAD” to be done, preparing a meal, cleaning etc, whereas Mary chose to just sit down at the feet of Jesus and listen to what HE said…

Martha is like so many of us christians, distracted by things that are not important to the ultimate plan of God… we are on this earth to make disciples of all nations, to teach them about the love of God and to move in signs and wonders greater than Jesus did!!

instead we argue amongst ourselves about this and that and about what Jesus “really” meant when he said this, or that this word doesnt actually mean that in the original hebrew context etc etc etc…

Martha was busy preparing a meal that Jesus did not order. when she complained he told her that ONLY ONE THING IS NEEDED. and that Mary had chosen what is better…

People are so concerned with which is the right denomination and being “deep” that they get lost in their deepness!!

Knowing all those things are not bad at all, but if u cant show me why and how this is going to unite the body of Christ and bring people into the kingdom then to me its all meaningless.

Let us not forget why we are here!

    Shalom x

In Your Holy Bible (In The Old Testament) The First Book Called GENESIS It Says In Chapter 11 Verse 1-6: ” Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. As men (human beings) moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar and settled there. They said to each other, ‘come let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly’. They used bricks insted of stone, and bitumen for mortar. Then they said, ‘come lets build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches up to the heavens so that we can make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth.’ But the LORD came down to see the city nad the tower the men were building. The LORD said, ‘If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do wil be impossible for them’ “.

    Now… The Topic…

If people can undersatnd the importance of unity- as one people speaking… there is nothing that will be impossible that will be insurmountable for them. Language is a function of the heart and speech is a function of the mind. You (we) must always find a level ground for the heart and mind, whereby the heart is in unity with the mind.

Your speech and language must be in unity (conformity0 for you (us0 to discover your (our) God-given ability. This is the same route taken by men and women who have made great discoveries in life. the key things is that your (our) heart and mind must be united.

Your (our) speech always change to what is right whenever your mind is connected to your (our) heart. Anytime your speech is not connected to your (our) language, confusion sets in.

Now, please note the following points (Praise The LORD):

    1) Language is a function of the heart.
    2) Speech is a function of the mind.
    3) Your mind defines your intention and the purpose.
    4) your heart defines the solution/plan.
    5) intention not defined cannot be executed.
    6) Your success or failure comes from the bedrock of your thought.
    7) Intention not executed is a provisional thought- procrastination.
    8) Faith is the vehicle to execute belief.
    9) It’s only faith and patience that can lead you to your inheritance.

    Now… in closing… HEBREWS Chapter 13 Verse 20-22.

Until the next topic and talking responses, remain blessed.
